Halloween is perhaps my favorite Holiday. I love all holidays, but Halloween is special. I think because it truly kicks off the end-of-the-year celebrations that last through New Year's Day. We get three solid months of magical imagination fun! Some of us will squeeze in four as Halloween starts for us sometimes at the beginning of September.
I like to attempt to create art for Halloween. Nothing serious, just for fun and entertainment on my Instagram. This year has been a rough one for me and while I am normally festive and jumping right in, it has been a struggle. I was lucky to remember all the drawing prompts that people completed throughout October.
I went with the amazing Fright-Fall! prompt calendar from RetroSupply Co. Each year they have a wonderful prompt calendar to help artists get in the spirit and create art with a chance to win some cool giveaways. While I didn't participate in the drawings, I did utilize the prompts to help guide me through the month. This was a Godsend and truly helped get my creative spark back to celebrate my favorite holiday!
The first prompt being "Owl", I imagined those old Beistle Halloween cutouts and looked to see what DAZ assets I had on hand. Owl? Check. Moon? Check. Old creepy tree? Yep. This one came together pretty quickly. I try to spend less than an hour on these types of images. Sometimes it takes longer, but usually, I can get one created in under an hour.
Once I have the scene constructed, I set up my camera angle and mess around with the lighting and fine-tuning of the final image I want to see:
I jump back and forth between a textured view and an Iray preview (which is the render engine I choose for the final render). Here is the preview:
And then the final render:
Then it is off to do some touch-ups in Photoshop and Lightroom. Finally onto my phone and posted to Instagram:
IG is where you can find a historic record of the images that are no longer on the website. It might be the best archive of a lot of what TorenCastle has evolved from.
Hope you enjoyed this little rundown. Have a super day!
